Themes will encourage participants to create intent, emotional or intellectual, subconscious or blatant, to be interpreted by the viewer. It is up to the student how they wish to interpret the theme. Techniques in application, design elements and style are open. You may work on paintings in progress, however we encourage participants to join in on the challenge.

- Brushes – strong enough [not WC] and three sizes [SML] of all shapes

Impressionist Landscapes with Curt
Daytime Class (Intermediate/Advanced Level)

Description:
Explore the techniques employed by the Impressionists as we delve into the art of painting landscapes from life through seeing, sketching, composing, colour mixing, and brush handling.
Through a combination of engaging exercises, dedicated painting sessions, and constructive critiques, this course aims to refine your painting skills, artistic confidence, and most importantly foster a positive, joyful experience.
It is recommended that you have prior experience in plein-air painting or at least have the necessary equipment to safely paint outdoors for a few hours. The instructor demos will be done using acrylic, but you can use either acrylic or oils, whichever you are most comfortable with.
Our classes will take place both outdoors (weather permitting) and at the FCAG studio. Class schedule and outdoor locations (within the GTA) to be provided during the first class.

Materials:
- 10 sheets of Canvas Paper or heavy-weight mixed media paper 9’x12’ (Painting on paper is recommended for this course)
- A lightweight smooth board with masking tape or a clip to secure the paper for painting
- Small Sketchbook and pencil for quick, rough sketches
- Willow charcoal (or regular charcoal, or conte)
- Brushes (large, medium and small)
- Palette knife
- Paint: Bring whatever colours you have. I recommend a blue, green, yellow, red, purple, and white.
- Palette (StayWet palette recommended for Acrylic Paints)
- For acrylics:
- Small spray bottle with water
- Slow drying gel medium
- Sealed container with water for cleaning brushes - For oils :
- Medium for oil paint: Medium of choice (Gamsol+linseed recommended)
- Sealed container with odourless spirits (Gamsol recommended). - Paper towels, plastic bags for paint waste
- Portable easel or pochade box for the plein-air sessions
- Portfolio or bag to carry your finished paintings

Plein Air with Catharine

Time: Wednesdays from 1 pm to 3:30 pm
Duration: 4 weeks from September 20th to October 11th
Location: TBD
Fees: $85 (members) or $110 (non-members)
Description:
Participants will meet at a location in the GTA to be announced. The location will have parking and public washrooms available. In case of bad weather, the class will take place indoors.

Duration: 4 weeks from September 20th to October 11th

Fees: $85 (members) or $110 (non-members)
Description:
Participants will meet at a location in the GTA to be announced. The location will have parking and public washrooms available. In case of bad weather, the class will take place indoors.
Materials:
- Small Sketchbook and pencil
- Whatever other medium you’re most comfortable
- Small canvas or paper
- Limited colour palette
- 2-3 brushes (if using paint)
- Environmentally friendly cleaning materials
- You might want to bring a chair/stool or/and a portable easel if you wish
