JOB POSTINGS 2023

The FCAG runs visual art classes and workshops for adults and youth (ages 13-18) from September to June. We also offer week-long Summer Art Camps for children (ages 6-12) during July and August. Children participating in the FCAG's Summer Art Camps will receive instruction in the techniques and methods of drawing, painting, sculpting and other forms of visual art in a safe, fun and encouraging environment.

​ART INSTRUCTORS - SPRING 2023

Job Summary: Teach a visual art class in our studios (8 weeks) or lead a visual art technique workshop (1 full day or 2 half-days) 
Dates :  Spring season (starting April 3rd) and/or Fall season (starting in September)
Rate : $35/hr

Responsibilities:
  • Provide a syllabus of the class or a description of the workshop
  • Monitor the participants work and give feedback
  • Ensure a comfortable and enjoyable environment for participants
  • Work on site
  • Comply with the FCAG Code of Conduct

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience teaching adults preferred
  • Must be reliable and have good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. 
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations


SUMMER CAMP LEADER  - SUMMER 2023  (1 position available)

Job Summary: The Camp Leader will plan and  develop a variety of art activities for the FCAG Summer Art Camp and will implement activities with the help of Camp Counsellors and program volunteers.
Dates :  June 26, 2023 - August 25, 2023 (9 weeks)
Rate : $25/hr

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the development and delivery of a children’s art camp program
  • Train, supervise and direct Camp Counsellors on all aspects of programming and delivery 
  • ​Coordinate purchase of materials and supplies for program
  • Monitor program registration, orientation and attendance, advising supervisors of any student absences (by phone, email or text)
  • Liaise with and inform parents about all aspects of camp program
  • Submit paperwork/time sheets to administration for all program staff
  • Monitor and advise students and staff of safe COVID-19 workplace measures
  • Complete an end-of-program assessment and present to FCAG Board
  • On an ongoing basis, keep supervisors informed of correspondence with funders
  • Required to work on-site
  • Required to open/close the Art Centre
  • Perform tasks and responsibilities as per the FCAG Code of Conduct

Qualifications: 
  • Our ideal candidate for the Camp Leader position is a creative person who has the ability to provide leadership to youth and inspire children (ages 6-12) to create art and enjoy self-expression. 
  • Able to organize and lead staff (Camp Counsellors) in the development of a variety of art and play activities
  • Has previous camp or recreation experience working with children
  • Must be reliable and have good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. 
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • Must complete or be certified in Standard First Aid by position start date 
  • Must present a current Vulnerable Sector Screening/Criminal Reference Check
  • Post secondary education in arts and/or education preferred 


SUMMER CAMP COUNSELLORS - SUMMER 2023  (2 positions available)

Job Summary: Reporting to the Camp Leader, the Camp Counsellors are responsible for assisting with the delivery of all day-to-day camp activities in the studio and outdoors. 
Dates :  July 4, 2023 - August 25, 2023 (8 weeks)
Rate : $17/hr

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist Camp Leader in developing and implementing Art and Play activities for children 6 to 12 years
  • Supervise children during outdoor time, lead group games, ensure students are playing/working safely and upholding house rules
  • Monitor/supervise children during their lunch and snack breaks
  • Assist with set up for programming and clean up of grounds and studio
  • Work one-on-one with children to help them learn techniques and provide emotional and physical support while completing projects
  • Report any serious occurrences, concerns, and behavioural issues to the Camp Leader, and assist with caring for children as instructed
  • Monitor supply inventory and maintain a safe and clean working environment
  • Interact positively with children, parents/guardians and staff
  • Perform tasks and responsibilities as per the FCAG Code of Conduct.

Qualifications: 
  • As this role is a funded summer role, candidate is required to be a young adult between 18 and 30 years of age
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. 
  • Is legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • Must complete or be certified in Standard First Aid by start date 
  • Must have a current Vulnerable Sector Screening/Criminal Reference Check 
  • Is a hard worker who is reliable, takes direction well, learns quickly, and has a positive attitude with strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Has experience with art making and/or an interest in the arts
  • Has experience working with children ages 6 to 12
  • Is able to work independently and in a team environment

About Franklin Carmichael Art Group
Franklin Carmichael Art Group (FCAG) is a charitable organization, founded by the late Dr. Agnes Ann Curtin, whose mission is to provide visual art opportunities in North Etobicoke.

Accountability
Board Directors are collectively accountable for FCAG’s performance with respect to its mandate and objectives. Directors are accountable to FCAG members, key stakeholders and the North Etobicoke community.

Authority
Board Directors have no authority to act individually in the direction of staff and volunteers or to act as spokesperson for FCAG unless specifically given such authority by the Board.

Responsibilities
Board Directors are responsible for the effective governance of FCAG by applying approved policies and procedures. Also, for ensuring that FCAG’s mandate and objectives are carried out.

General Duties
  • Attend monthly meetings
  • Participate in annual and strategic planning
  • Read and understand the financial statements and funding system
  • Review/amend and approve by-laws and governing policies
  • Review and amend FCAG’s mandate and objectives
  • Participate in the recruitment of staff and new Board Directors
  • Be a member of a least one Committee
  • Attend events organized by FCAG
  • Attend an orientation and ongoing training, as required

Qualifications
  • Be or become an FCAG member
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Not be an undischarged bankrupt person
  • Demonstrate and encourage innovative thinking
  • Openness to learning
  • Experience in the following areas: fundraising, financial planning, human resources and community engagement
