Description:
Nancy will capture the simplicity of a single red barn in watercolor. Nancy will provide detailed instruction with multiple reference paintings and one-on-one attention. Students can draw an outline of their barn ahead of the workshop. Students are encouraged to experiment with colour to help them see, with new eyes, the beauty around them. Please feel free to change the season of your painting (winter to summer).

Description:
Try out this traditional style of painting from professional artist, Aisha Malik! In this workshop, Aisha will demonstrate the technique of illustrative art using opaque watercolours on wood. Follow Aisha through step-by-step instruction to create a small version of a miniature style painting. Participants will work on a gesso board delivered via mail (included in workshop fee).

- Watercolour brushes including, small detailing brushes
- Watercolour paints (preferably Winsor and Newton brand but other brands can also be used). Gouache paints can also be used.
- White poster colour (required)
- Paint palette
- Small containers for mixing colours
- Wash clothes
- Variety of pencils (H, 2H, 4H,5H)
- Sandpaper (for sharpening pencils)

Mixed Media is a visual art form that allows the artist to use a variety of mediums to create an art piece. The term mixed media has traditionally referred to the combination of painting materials such as acrylic and watercolour or gouache and tempera. Contemporary mixed media art has expanded the definition of mixed media to include a boundless arrangement of mediums and materials resulting in unique creations limited only by creativity and imagination of the artist.

- Hard surface (approx. 9”x12”): wood, cardboard, illustration board or canvas board if using paper min 90lbs
- Acrylic paints, soluble acrylic inks: any colours you have on hand including metallics
- Papers – newsprint, magazines, tissue, old drawings or text
- Mediums (acrylic polymers): Glazing medium, modelling paste, matte gel medium
- Flat brushes (various sizes) Rounds #6, #12 Nylon and bristles
- Mark-making tools: pencil, marker, ink, palette knife, ruler, eraser
- Roller

- Suggestions: Patterned, textured papers, origami papers, rubber stamps, sponge rollers, photos and images on paper, dried leaves/flowers, feathers etc.

In this workshop, Maria will demonstrate her pastel painting techniques, including underpainting and layering process, to create a landscape painting en plein air. If you have not attended one of her workshops, do not fear! You will get step-by-step instruction and a lot of support. This approach is great for beginner to advanced artists. This workshop will be delivered outdoors in Curtin Park (Franklin Carmichael Art Group) considering physical distancing measures.

Materials:
- pastel paper with tooth 9”x12” (suggestions: UART grade 320, 400 or 500, Premier Pastel paper, Touch or Colourfix Art Spectrum. White or off-white)
- Soft pastel set (suggestions: Prismacolor Nupastel, Rembrandt or any other brand)
- Foam board larger than 9”x12” preferably black (available at Dollarama)
- Masking tape black and/or white
- Rubbing alcohol
- Small cup
- Bristle brush (any size between 6 to 10)
- Paper towels
- Disposable gloves (optional)
- Apron (optional)
