Description:
In this class, Catharine will propose themes, demonstrate techniques, and provide guidance on how to create a painting. Participants will be able to follow along and work at their own pace. At the end of each class, there will be a critique where participants will have the chance to help each other and discuss how to improve their work.

- Canvas (11”x14” recommended)
- Brushes
- Palette (StayWet palette recommended for Acrylic Paints)
- Acrylic/oil paints (Colours suggested: ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, permanent rose/cadmium red, alizarin crimson, yellow ochre, lemon/cadmium yellow, burnt umber and titanium white)
- For acrylics: thinning medium
- For oils: oil medium (e.g. linseed or walnut oil) and odourless mineral spirits for cleaning
- Pencil
- Paper towels
- Table cover (a large garbage bag works fine)

- Reference images/pictures, Brushes
- Palette (StayWet palette recommended for Acrylic Paints)
- Acrylic/oil paints (Colours suggested: Titanium white, Yellow ochre, Cadmium orange, Cadmium red, Alizarin crimson, Raw umber,
- Ivory black (optional), Burnt umber (optional), Ultramarine blue or cerulean(optional) )
- Extra paint surface (ie inexpensive canvas board or medium/heavy weight paper like watercolor paper. Arches 140lb/300gsm) to be used for some paint mixing exercises.
- For acrylics: thinning medium

Description:
Classes will address many styles. Composition, mixing colour and the use of a limited palette are covered.
Materials to Bring to Class:
- Oil or Acrylic Paint (whatever you have in your palette, or we recommend: white; ivory blk; earth colours – yellow ocher, raw umber; primaries if possible – magenta/rose, primary yellow/hansa, cyan/cobalt; chromium oxide & veridian green; diazinon purple; zinc white is also a good white to have if you want more experience)
- Surface – 2 to 4, 9x12 min canvas board, stretched canvas or pad
- Palette – disposable pad 9x12min – without the finger hole
- Mediums – acrylic polymers/gels and oil mediums/paste
- Brushes – strong enough [not WC] and three sizes [SML] of all shapes
- Painting Knives – pie shape for mixing essential min
- 2ft sq fabric – towel or heavy sweatshirt material for cleanup – used each class
- Sketchbook and pencil, Brush stand (optional) – ex: piece of wood with drilled holes to support brushes, 2ft string – use will be explained
